Satao Color was founded in Nairobi by a small team with deep roots in the East African gem trade — generations of relationships with the miners, cutters, and dealers who quietly shape the world's finest colored stone market.

Our name honors Satao, the great tusker of Tsavo — a symbol of the region's enduring rarity, dignity, and quiet power. The land that produced him also produces some of the most distinctive gemstones ever discovered: the electric green of tsavorite, the twilight blue of tanzanite, the velvet red of Mahenge spinel.

We source only what we would buy ourselves. Every stone passes through our hands in Nairobi, where it is examined, photographed, and catalogued before it is offered to a partner abroad.
